NYSE Open VIII is a non-sanctioned, 15 proxy, Vintage tournament to be held on June 22nd, 2024 at the Four Points Sheraton, in Plainview, New York (333 S. Service Rd, Plainview, N.Y., 11803 - 516-694-6500).

Check in for the event will be at 9:00 am. Round one will fire at 10:00 am. Please do not attempt to enter the play space before 9:00 am. I will only have access to the area an hour or so beforehand, and the staff is going to need that time to begin setup.

Decklists will need to be submitted via Melee the night before the event. Decklists will not be open until after the conclusion of the event.

As with all previous NYSE Opens, there will be a team trio competition. If you so desire, you, and two friends, can register a PG team name and compete over the course of the day. For every win a player on your team accumulates, three points will be added to your team point total. Every draw will add one point. Losses add zero points. At the end of the event, the team with the highest point total will be awarded the team trophies!

I reserve the right to exclude any individual from the event for cause.

Additionally, we will have Calvin Hodges there to buy and sell any cards you may want to sell, or need to buy.

Mark Aronowitz will be there with a collection of awesome mats, pins, and other pieces of Magic memorabilia from Magic artists such as Dan Frazier, Doug Shuler, and many other greats from Magic's past.

Greg Fenton will be there selling copies of his magnificent NYSE Open VIII playmat! Greg's beautiful images have added a beautiful, and unique touch to the event. I'll be one of the many people purchasing a mat from Greg to commemorate the day!

For paper printouts generated for this tournament, participants' names will be displayed using their full real names, irrespective of their profile's name display settings. This specification applies solely to printed materials.

To unenroll after you must contact the organizer.

This event will be run at competitive rules enforcement level, so please pay attention! If you have a question regarding an interaction, please either seek out a judge before the event (and the head judge if necessary), or call a judge when needed. The judge staff is there for you! Please make use of them when needed!

Proxies are legal for this event. The guidelines on proxies are as follows:

A proxy, for the purposes of NYSE Open VIII, is a legal Magic: the Gathering card that has had certain information either blanked out (i.e. with acetone), or has had certain information blacked out (with black Sharpie marker).

Please strongly consider using MDFC helper cards as your proxies! They are among the best options available!

All information of the proxied card must be recorded, and easily legible. For example, a Mox Sapphire would need to reflect its mana cost (zero), card type (artifact), and text (tap to add one blue mana to your mana pool). Black Sharpie marker is excellent for this. Pen is not, and would not be accepted, as it is not easily legible at a distance.

Some cards are better than others for proxies. A Revised Island is an excellent choice for a proxy, as the light background of the card makes it far easier to read than a newer, darker printing. It should always be clear, to you, your opponent, and the judge staff, what your proxies are. Using 15 copies of the same card for proxies will not be accepted, as it will create confusion. If you needed to proxy a playset of Moxen, proxying a Mox on a land of its corresponding type would be a great idea.

International Edition and Collector's Edition cards are wonderful proxies, and are acceptable for this event.

Printouts, either those that have been glued to Magic cards, or those that are inserted into sleeves, are marked cards, and will not be legal proxies for this event. The thickness of the card has been altered, and this will make the card marked for all intents and purposes.

Fake Magic cards of any kind will not be legal proxies for this event.

Vintage is an exceptionally expensive format, and the purpose of a proxy is to lower the barrier of entry a little bit, so that players who are passionate about the format are able to play in an event that they would otherwise not have been able to play in. Proxies should not be used as a form of gamesmanship to try and confuse opponents, and gain an advantage in the game itself.

If you have questions about your proxies, please arrive early enough to speak with a member of the judge staff. This is important, so please allow time for this.

Finally, there is no reason why your proxies cannot be beautiful. Magic is a beautiful game, and taking pride in your proxies is a great thing.

Buying and selling cards in the venue is not permitted.

Player check-in will be at 9:00 am. Round one will fire at 10:00 am.

There will be security at the venue. This is an acknowledgement of the expense of the cards that we will be playing with that day. That said, speaking as someone who has had cards stolen from me at events, please be mindful of your cards at all times. While there is security, each player is responsible for their possessions.

Each player will be given a wristband that corresponds with any bag(s) that they have brought to the event. If you have multiple bags, you will have multiple wristbands.

Checking wristbands will take time, and it is possible that when exiting the dedicated area it will take a few moments before you're able to have your wristband(s) checked. Please be patient with the security staff; they are there to ensure that your expensive possessions, and those of your friends at the event, remain with you. I've waited in these lines, and while it may take me a few extra moments, this is part of the defense against theft, and deeply important for an event like this.

Theft of any kind will be taken exceptionally seriously. There are cameras in the venue, and anyone caught stealing will be dealt with by the Nassau County Police Department. There is a zero tolerance policy on theft.

The organizer has agreed to pay out prizes in 60 days or less.

The top eight of the tournament will draft the following cards based on final standings (thus, the winner goes first, runner-up goes second, etc.)

Unlimited Black Lotus Unlimited Mox Pearl Unlimited Mox Sapphire Unlimited Mox Jet Unlimited Mox Ruby Unlimited Mox Emerald Unlimited Time Walk Unlimited Timetwister

The top eight prize pool is guaranteed regardless of attendance. If we only had one person register for the event, they'd walk away with eight pieces of power.

At 115 players, four Bazaar of Baghdad will be added to the prize pool for those who finish between 9th-12th place, to be drafted by those players according to their final standing (thus 9th goes first, 10th goes second, etc.).

At 135 players, four Mishra's Workshop will be added to the prize pool for those who finish between 9th-16th place, to be drafted by those players according to their final standing.

At 155 players, four foil Gaea's Cradles will be added to the prize pool for those who finish between 9th-20th place, to be drafted by those players according to their final standing.

To be clear, if we had 155 players, the player who finished in ninth place would have first pick among the prizes from 9th-20th. If they wanted a foil Gaea's Cradle in lieu of a Bazaar of Baghdad, they would be able to choose that card.

There are thousands of dollars worth of giveaways that I have acquired, and I will be announcing them slowly, as we come closer to the event.

As per tradition, there will be custom altered Karn, Silver Golems (done by Earl Grant de Leon, aka Poxy14) given away at the event - one to the victor, one to the best sportsman.

The legendary NYSE trophy will be back once again, in addition to the team trio trophies!

The NYSE Open, to me, was always meant as a celebration of Magic's past. I have acquired some very cool, and unique, pieces of Magic history that will go out that day. I look forward to sharing what I've picked up in the weeks and months that follow, both on Facebook, and Twitter. I hope you enjoy the giveaways as much as I do.
