TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE
When challenging, players should use the "Historic Tournament Match" challenge mode, this enables both turn timers and ensures coin flip is randomized in a Best of 3 setting. This will be used in Swiss and Top 8 rounds.
The tournament will be composed of up to 7 Swiss-system rounds: players will be entered into 7 rounds against opponents with equal or like records, with the top 8 seeding decided by a point-based system. Points will be given based on Win/Draw/Loss.
The top 8 will compete in a single elimination bracket to determine ranking. Depending on the number of players and prize pool, winnings may be distributed to the top 4 or top 8.
Each round will be restricted to a 50-minute timer. If a pairing surpasses the 50-minute mark, participants are to immediately submit their current score (be it 1-0 or 1-1). This helps us keep the tournament progressing in a timely manner.
DECKLISTS
The tournament is open decklist. You must submit your decklist up to 1 hour before the tournament begins, or risk being dropped from the tournament. You can submit your decklist as well as view your opponent’s list when pairings are made through the ‘player controller’.
Rules
Be active through our Discord server, MTGMelee, and/or MTG Arena so that you may be reached if needed by opponents or tournament staff.
PLAYERS MUST CHECK IN BEFORE THE TOURNAMENT STARTS OR YOU WILL BE KICKED!
The voice channel labeled 'Feature Match 1' voice channel will be the primary voice lobby for the tournament; NO streaming of matches will occur there. The channel will focus on having tournament staff available for participants to quickly interact with staff as necessary. The ‘Tournament Chat’ text channel will be where all discussion of the tournament should be, to avoid flooding other channels.
All other feature match voice channels are free for participants to stream their match in to be viewed by spectators. To mitigate the chance of stream-sniping, only one tournament participant will be allowed to be on each feature match voice channel at a time. The ONLY exception to this is if you were part of a different match this round and have already submitted your results. Feel free to stream or record your matches for any content creation across all platforms.
After you complete one (best of three) round, one or both participants should submit the results on MTGMelee, or to ‘Tournament-Results’ text channel so staff can input your results should there be an error.
No unsportsmanlike behavior - do your best and focus on having fun!
If you plan on dropping out of the tournament after rounds have started, please let staff know so we can adjust accordingly, and other participants are not waiting for an opponent who won’t joining. You also have the option of dropping out of the tournament through the ‘player controller’ at any time and MTGMelee will automatically update round standings.
