It’s not your typical hotel or convention center space and makes for a unique experience.

Coverage - https://www.twitch.tv/buffalochickendiplegacy. Coverage team to be announced later.

Entry - $145 + fees assessed online by MTG Melee. Each player entry includes lunch. There is no signup option that does not include lunch. A change from the last BCDL Open is that the event will be open to participants 18 or older as of the day of the event. However, as this event is at an alcohol establishment you must be 21 years of age or older to purchase alcohol.

Signup - Signup will be exclusively through MTG Melee. The tournament will be capped at 128 players.

I need to give a final headcount to Brewdog Brewery by September 20, 2023. Meaning if you do not sign up by then I cannot guarantee you a spot. If you need to drop after that date, I cannot refund your entry unless your spot is sold to someone else. I can assist you with selling your spot. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO SIGN UP.

Vintage Open Trials – With the BCDL Vintage Open we’re trying something new; BCDL Vintage Open Trials. BCDL Vintage Open Trials are events in which organizers can pay for any number of entries into the September 30, 2023 BCDL Vintage Open and give those paid entries away as prizes to participants. While it’s preferred that organizers run Vintage events, we realize that may not fit all communities and that organizers know their communities best. These events can be in any format and may allow playtest cards in any amount the organizer deems acceptable. BCDL will also promote your BCDL Vintage Open Trial events on its social medial accounts if you’d like. It is also not required that you be an LGS to run a BCDL Vintage Open Trial event. If you and your local group want to do a 10 player Standard format draft event for a BCDL Vintage Open Trial, that’s fine by me. Once a recipient of the entry is decided please email me: 1) the winner’s name, 2) MTG Melee account email, and 3) info on the event. It’s that simple.

For a full list of BCDL Vintage Open Trials see the BCDL Twitter @bcdlegacy.

Tournament Administration - Pairings, decklists, and match results through MTG Melee. Decklist submission is due before the beginning of round 1. There will be judges on hand for all of your questions regarding rulings, playtest cards, and anything else that may be required.

Vendors – We’re happy to announce The Warp Gate located in Westerville, Ohio will be joining us to vend the event. Warp Gate stocks a selection of Dual Lands, Power 9, and other Vintage staples. Anyone caught “backpack vending” cards will be removed from the event.

Side Events – Currently we have no side events planned, but this could change closer to the event or day of if there is enough demand.

To unenroll after you must contact the organizer.

Covid-19 Safety – There will be no requirement that participants submit proof of vaccination, negative test, or mask unless required by government authority or the venue itself. Currently, no such requirements are in place. For full details see our announcement dated 6/10/23 here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SqFG3Z2sZpboVWT6pXTkvOZUCkmZV7WW/view.

Alcohol – Alcohol will be available for purchase, but alcohol will not be allowed into the main play space beyond the partition wall during the event other than at lunch and after the conclusion of Swiss rounds. The small bar area will have some tables.

Playtest Card Policy - Printed pieces of paper slipped inside card sleeves ARE NOW permitted to be used as playtest cards for this event. Players may use any number of playtest cards for this event. In the spirit of NYSE we will also be allowing their playtest card policy below. Finally, players are also welcome to borrow cards from the BCDL Playtest Library. Please make sure any playtest cards you use conform to 1) NYSE policy below, 2) Any number of paper printed playtest cards, or 3) playtest cards borrowed from the BCDL Playtest Library. If you would like to add an expensive card to the BCDL Playtest Library, please contact me and we can make arrangements to do so.

The request form for BCDL playtest cards can be found here - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfkhWNENzqO6YrV7Abp9SbtY1pvAPweDh-57q3YSUr1XUtzsg/viewform?vc=0&c=0&w=1&flr=0

NYSE Playtest Card Policy - “A Magic: the Gathering card with the full name, card type (instant, sorcery, land, artifact, creature, enchantment, planeswalker), full mana cost and text clearly displayed. This can be done in one of several ways:

  1. Using a Sharpie, not pen or pencil, to fill in the required text on a card where it can clearly be read. Revised lands or Double-Faced helper cards are excellent for this, new commons and uncommons aren’t usual, as they’re darker, and far tougher to read. If using this method, see example below for a great example.
  2. Using acetone to remove certain text from a card that’s close to the intended proxy (i.e. Lotus Bloom, with certain words removed to proxy a Black Lotus, Ancestral Visions with certain words removed to proxy an Ancestral Recall).
  3. Other allowable playtest cards include those from Magic 30th Edition, CE/IE, and Duel Masters. Take pride in your proxies! Your opponents should know at all times what your proxies are. Using 15 Swamps to make your proxies is a bad idea, as it’s going to create confusion. If you’re proxying Moxen, please use a land from each appropriate color to make a proxy for each according Mox (i.e., your Mox Sapphire is on an Island, your Mox Jet is on a Swamp, your Mox Pearl is on a Plains, etc.). Please use your best judgment when creating your proxies; we know what will and what won’t be easily recognizable. If you’re worried that your proxies may not pass muster, please speak to the head judge of the event before the event starts. Leave enough time to create new proxies, if necessary. Using paper printouts of card faces and gluing them to cards is not acceptable! This alters the thickness of the cards, making the cards marked for all intents and purposes. Please don’t do this, as the judges will be instructed to consider these as marked cards and enforce punishment according to DCI Competitive REL event regulations!” A link to the BCDL Playtest Library request form will be posted closer to the event. Playtest cards borrowed from the BCDL Playtest Library will be picked up the morning of the event during check-in at the scorekeeper table. Playtest cards from the BCDL Playtest Library will be given to you in smoke perfect fits. A cash deposit of $20 is required to borrow cards from the BCDL Playtest Library and will be returned to you upon the return of the playtest cards. Please return all borrowed playtest cards so we may use them for future events. The cards currently available for loan are: 1) Savannah; 2) Underground Sea; 3) Tropical Island; 4) Volcanic Island; 5) Tundra; 6) Plateau; 7) Scrubland; 8) Taiga; 9) Bayou; 10) Badlands; 11) Gaea’s Cradle; 12) Lion’s Eye Diamond; 13) Grim Monolith; 14) Force of Will; 15) Null Rod; 16) Mox Diamond; 17) The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale; 18) City of Traitors; 19) Intuition; 20) Aluren; 21) Personal Tutor; 22) Eureka; 23) Chains of Mephistopheles; 24) The Abyss; 25) Mox Pearl; 26) Mox Sapphire; 27) Mox Jet; 28) Mox Ruby; 29) Mox Emerald; 30) Mishra’s Workshop; 31) Bazaar of Baghdad; 32) Time Vault. If you’re interested in a card not on this list let me know and I’ll get playtest copies for you to use. All playtest cards of any type must be used in fully opaque sleeves. It is your responsibility to confirm your sleeves are fully opaque and playtest cards, whether your own, BCDL Playtest Library, CE/IE, Magic 30, or anything else are not identifiable. Judges will be happy to examine your deck during check in before round 1 begins. We recommend using Dragon Shield Smoke Perfect Fits and Dual Matte sleeves.

Schedule – Check in will begin at 9 am with the first round beginning at 10 am. Lunch will be served between rounds 3 and 4 with an hour break before the beginning of round 4. While this is fluid due to the nature of tournaments, I anticipate food to be out around 12:30 pm - 12:45 pm with the lunch break being approximately 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. It will be your responsibility to be prepared for the start of each round. An announcement will be made likely before round 3 regarding timing for lunch.

Lunch – There will be a lunch break after round 3 and before round 4 begins. Lunch will be a taco bar with beef brisket protein, Mexican corn, and toppings. Black bean spread as a vegetarian option. Tacos will be served with flour or corn tortillas, an assortment of toppings, chips and salsa, and Mexican street corn. Brewdog will prepare and serve buffalo chicken dip! While it won’t be our traditional recipe, we’re excited to continue this tradition.

The organizer has agreed to pay out prizes immediately after the tournament has ended.

Prize Pool - Minimum of $4,000 in prizes, at 80 players $5,000 in prizes, at 100 players $6,000 in prizes, at 128 players $7,500. All prizes will be paid out in eternal format staples. Brewdog will not allow us to compete for cash prizes as doing so is considered gambling and a violation of their liquor license so prizes must be for cards. The current prize pool is below and will increase as outlined above. The deadline for paid players to increase the prize pool will be September 20, 2023, to allow me time to secure additional prizes. 1st Place – Name on the Golden Chicken Trophy and 1 Unlimited Time Vault (of at least Moderately Played condition) 2nd Place – 1 Revised Volcanic Island (of at least Moderately Played condition) 3rd and 4th Place – 1 Revised Underground Sea (of at least Moderately Played condition) 5th – 8th Place – 1 Revised Savannah (of at least Moderately Played condition) 9th – 16th Place – To be determined.

A note regarding the TBD status of prizes 9th Place through 16th Place. I want to see what cards may be released in Commander Masters as it may affect pricing of staples at this price point which would allow me to purchase more cards. I’m hoping to be able to prize down further if there are enough entries to facilitate it. Updated details on prizing at 9th – 16th will be provided at a later date.

Door Prizes – Through the generosity of the Vintage community we have some great door prizes to give away including oversized cards (Hurloon Minotaur, Shivan Dragon, Chaos Orb, and Juzam Djinn) as well as play mats including a signed Mox Pearl mat, and much more!
